Sewing pattern tutorial: The Brooklyn Bermuda pants hack

When our favorite palazzo pants pattern decides to switch to summer time, I decide to explore a new silhouette... I dared to try the Brooklyn Bermuda shorts !

Ultra easy to hack, the Brooklyn sewing pattern has a cut that lends itself well to the exercise: the leg is wide, the waist and hips marked.

To match my future Brooklyn Bermuda shorts, I chose to sew the Mimosa blazer pattern in the matching fabric.

Maison Fauve tailored wool fabric

It's a little marvel, 100% merino wool , woven in England. It is soft, light, very supple. To sew my blazer in it, I interfaced the pieces 1.front and 2.side entirely in Vlieseline G785 , in addition to the strips ofVlieseline G700 placed in the seam allowance area (as  I recommend it in the Mimosa boss brochure).

This way, the jacket keeps its flexibility but has just the right amount of hold.

The hack video tutorial

In this video I will show you how to shorten your pattern:

  • How to trace the side line giving a little ease. I chose a finished inseam length of 35.5cm (I also add 4cm for a clean hem)

  • I flare the bottom of my Bermuda shorts by 1 cm on the side and I pick up the line on the C mark opposite the pocket. The leg will be straighter and slightly more flared than on the original Brooklyn pants.

  • You can of course adapt these measurements to your desired look, particularly the length of the Bermuda shorts.

  • The final fabric consumption can be reduced by 40 cm based on an equivalent length.
