Sporty chic trend: my crocheted Granite sweater

When I chose to offer you crochet knit in our fabric collection, it seemed important to me to be able to decline this material with several patterns. After having presented it to you with the Malibu polo shirt pattern, or the Songe shorts, I chose a pattern that is not a new one but that I have not shown you for a very very long time: the Granite sweatshirt pattern.

My sailor sweater to sew

The idea of revisiting our sweatshirt pattern to transform it into a small sweater was very appealing: our striped knit gives it a sailor sweater look that I love. And above all, this fabric really highlights Granite's remarkable element: its beautiful long balloon sleeve is worked with pleats, its low shoulder and its wide, cropped cut.

How to sew Granite in crochet mesh?

The Granite sweatshirt is a pattern designed to be sewn in sweatshirt knit and with ribbing at the neckline and collar, so fabrics with elasticity. Our crochet fabric does not have the elasticity of this type of fabric at all, so I made 2 VERY easy modifications to the pattern :

  • I increased the length of the wrist piece by 3 cm, so as not to be limited to the passage of the hand.

  • Although the width of the crochet fabric is not cut in the direction of the width but at 90° to obtain the horizontal stripes, the fabric consumption will not change compared to that recommended on your pattern. I am attaching the corrected cutting plan here:

  • I chose not to put the neckline band. I was afraid that it would pull or warp, and above all I wanted to accentuate the sweater look rather than the sweatshirt, and I like the beautiful scooped neckline that I got. To do this, I put a strip cut on the bias in ourblack cotton voile . For the length of the bias, I measured the neckline of the sewn sweater, and I applied this measurement. The result is very clean, does not pull, is not deformed... My little sweater is exactly as I dreamed it!

  • For the bottom hem, I overlocked the bottom of the sweater and did a simple hem.

I can't wait to reveal the next very peppy images from this session :) For the occasion, I'm wearing my Grand Bain shorts in Smoky Blue gabardine and sneakers from the Zeta brand with which we collaborated during the Empire State Of Fauve collection .
