Solaris, the story of a motif

Each collection at Maison Fauve is distinguished by its own unique universe, a dedicated aesthetic, and a new story that I enjoy telling. The color palette and prints are key elements of this narrative. They will be reflected on the fabrics as well as the pattern envelopes.

I designed the Fauve Romance collection as a road trip, a beautiful escape from a hyperactive urban daily life towards the sweetness and lightness of vacation.

Summer at Maison Fauve is colorful, bright, and I wanted the colors to be those of the sky that my heroine scans with her eyes at the wheel of her convertible: the blue halos of early mornings at the water's edge, the vivid colors of a field of flowers that we see like a trail when we drive along it at high speed, the soft pastels of the end of the afternoon when the sky becomes vanilla-colored like in an impressionist painting, the orange-red then the fire of twilight when night falls.

I wanted dresses in the color of the times, a silhouette that could be recognized at a glance, an inspiring palette whose tones could follow everyone's desires, while maintaining an overall unity.

An exclusive print

I spent a lot of time searching for a pattern that would embody all of this. I love abstract art for its work on color, form, and light. It's an extension of Fauvism, moving away from reality. And "gradient art" is a technique that goes even further; it emphasizes the transitions from one color to another, from one tone to another. But it wasn't easy to translate this into a pattern. I was lucky enough to meet a textile designer who offered me a pattern as beautiful as a painting, with its nuances, its blurring and halo effects. And she did a fabulous job on the color variations, based on the Fauve Romance palette.

How to sew viscose poplin

I recommend using microtex needles when sewing viscose poplin to avoid pulling threads and weakening your viscose fabric. To give your projects a firm hold, use an iron-on like Vlieseline G710 for collars, button plackets and cuffs. And to add just a little definition to your neckline, use Vlieseline G785 for the edges.

Wash your viscose garments in a laundry bag at 30°C max on a delicate cycle.

Haberdashery for your Solaris poplin creations

We offer a whole range of spools of sewing thread for this fabric:

And we offer you a whole range of buttons, in a wide range of colors to have pretty details for your sewing:

A beautiful printed dress for summer

The Cuba Libre dress in Solaris Ultra Orange

I've made the Cuba Libre dress in Solaris Ultra Orange poplin for an ultra-bright take on this beautiful summer dress. And I chose Solaris Confetti poplin for a long dress that plays on trompe l'oeil in a revisited floral fabric. This beautiful dress has butterfly sleeves and a paneled skirt: the silhouette lengthens and twirls beautifully.

For the Solaris Blue Halo print, I chose the very summery Paola dress, with its thin straps, stunning back, and flowing cut thanks to its panel construction. A sundress that fully lets this intricate print express itself.

The Paola dress in Solaris Blue Halo

Pairing the Transat dress with the Solaris print was a no-brainer. The Transat dress has a beautiful V-neckline on the front and back, with pleats on the shoulders, it ties at the waist, and the front is embellished with a slit: a very easy model to sew and which will instantly raise the temperature in this fabric.

An irresistible little top

The Daïquiri blouse in Solaris Pastel

The softness of the Solaris Pastel pairs beautifully with the Daïquiri blouse; its light colors don't hide the distinctive cutwork of the sewing pattern. It's a mermaid blouse, which will look superb worn over plain shorts.

The top Paola in Solaris Ultra Orange

The Paola top is a real gem, a small, hand-sewn camisole that takes on a whole new dimension in the spectacular Solaris Ultra Orange print. Perfect with jeans, it will add a touch of spice to any outfit.

The Spritz Tank Top Duo in Solaris Confetti

And why not a Spritz tank top? Play with this duo of tops, one solid and one printed, to bring out the pops of color in the Solaris Confetti print. Slip on a cool, lightweight cotton voile underneath, perfect for the hot summer days.

Soft pastels, intense warm colors, hypnotic blue, what will be your favorite Solaris for the summer?!
