8 fashion accessories to sew with Maison Fauve fabrics!

It's not just clothes  in life, there are hand-sewn accessories too!

When I have the opportunity to talk to seamstresses at trade shows, I understand that many devote themselves to accessories because clothing seems to them to be a much more complex step. In my opinion, the challenge in sewing clothes is not from a technical point of view, because many beginner patterns have less difficulty in assembling than a zipped and lined bag. But it is more in a form of sacralization: the clothing is perceived as more complex in its development, and there is also the apprehension that the clothing will not fit us, which is not a hindrance encountered when sewing a clutch for example.

Match your sewing for matchy-matchy creations

Conversely, seamstresses who have a beautiful hand-sewn wardrobe sometimes neglect sewing accessories because they don't find the same creative momentum, the slightly "fashionable" side that they seek when sewing their own clothes. But there is still a way to have fun with accessories, like the beautiful Rosa who sewed an adorable little bag from a Cool Stiches pattern that matches her Dandelion jacket from Maison Fauve in Botanica jacquard.

Now, sewing accessories is a way to combine the pleasure of sewing, learning new techniques and using small pieces of fabric . And I thought it would be a shame not to tell you more about these sewing projects that we ultimately use a lot on a daily basis, which are quick projects to make, and which are also totally compatible with a category of fabrics that is close to my heart and that we offer you every season at Maison Fauve: jacquards !

In addition, during the Fauve sales, we are offering you a selection of jacquard fabrics at low prices which are perfect for a beautiful weekend bag or a fanny pack for example.

Expert advice for beautiful hand-sewn accessories

I suggested to Sarah, aka @todotoutdoux, to work with me on these themes. She offers some very pretty bag patterns on her site :

Sewing a bag allows you to discover many sewing techniques : transferring a pattern onto a fabric, pinning your pieces well, sewing rounded areas, sewing corners, making inlays with certain bag patterns, lining a piece, adding a zip, embellishing your piece with piping, etc. So many techniques that are also useful when you sew clothes.

Sarah has real expertise in this field, and she perfectly addresses the issues encountered by seamstresses who like to sew accessories but are new to sewing clothes. I like her pop, colorful world, and her very well-designed and very joyful content.

She offers you numerous step-by-step videos on her YouTube channel , and even devotes a complete section to "getting started in sewing clothes" with a selection of very easy and accessible patterns that we offer you at Maison Fauve such as the Marisa top , the Transat dress , the Palma top for example.

Free accessories patterns from Maison Fauve

Maison Fauve is above all a brand of clothing sewing patterns, because that's what drives me when I design the collections. But I am also pleased to offer you among our selection of free PDF patterns such as the Pompon vest , or the Cédrat camisole , 2 accessory patterns to complete your look: the Fauve bob and the Nomade belt . These 2 patterns are designed for seamstresses of all levels.

Sew a belt (special pattern for sewing beginners)

The Nomad belt

The Nomade belt is a pretty wide belt, to recall the wide fabric that gauchos tie at the waist. It was offered for free in the issue of L'Œil Fauve magazine launched during the Sew Me Pampa collection. Reversible, very very easy to sew, it allows you to play with fabrics because it is constructed with inserts, and you can wear it on one side or the other, the finishes are very clean on both sides of the belt. To close it, it simply ties in the back, and you then hide the strands by slipping them into the belt.

A free bob pattern for summer

The Fauve bob

The Fauve bob is a pattern that I offered for a sewing challenge, 5 years ago now. At the time, we had not yet launched our Youtube channel, and so it only had a step-by-step photo , which is still available on our website.

With video support now being the "standard" for almost all of our models, we are happy to offer you a new video tutorial dedicated to the Fauve bob , with a little "extra": the assembly range presented in the video allows you to sew a lined AND reversible bob !

I entrusted this mission to Tessa, our young intern (and future work-study student) in sewing. Tessa is at a beginner to intermediate sewing level, and she had no difficulty sewing the Fauve bob in our ecru Botanica jacquard. For the lining, the cotton voile seems perfect for summer: breathable, comfortable, it is ink-colored to match the little blue flowers of the jacquard.

Whether you are a beginner or an experienced seamstress, sewing accessories is a nice way to learn certain techniques, and to have a good time sewing using small pieces of fabric. It can also be an opportunity for a shared moment to teach a friend or child how to sew, and these are often sewing projects that we enjoy giving as gifts!
