Sewing pattern tutorial: How to sew the Rafale windbreaker?

The Rafale windbreaker combines comfort, practicality... and style! It is full of pretty details:

  • Small flaps and inserts which structure the cut and give it dynamism,

  • A beautiful and "real" hood, decorated with a small visor and tightened with ties for a finished look and improved protection,

  • The neckline closes with an invisible zip and a button placket, for a couture touch and the pleasure of embellishing your sewing with pretty buttons,

  • The sleeve is very long, and the bottom of the sleeve is elasticated for comfort,

  • It has a large kangaroo pocket with a trompe l'oeil flap, so you can slip your hands in and keep them nice and warm.

It is also a windbreaker pattern whose level of finishing is absolutely perfect :

  • The hood is lined,

  • The assembly is done in English seam, with sleeves assembled in folded seam (the most suitable finish for this part of the garment),

  • The zip is mounted "properly", nothing sticks out or is visible.

Your gust windbreaker will look as good on the reverse as on the right side, for a durable piece of sewing that you can be proud of!

And don't panic, this pattern is aimed at experienced seamstresses , but with our sewing tutorial which covers each step precisely, everything will go well.

The technical points covered in this free sewing step-by-step guide are:

  • Make a lined hood and attach it to a garment

  • Sewing bibs with an inside seam using a French seam

  • Place a clean invisible zip on the right side and the wrong side

  • Sew sleeves onto a garment with a folded seam

  • Place an elastic band at the bottom of the sleeve in a casing

  • Attach a pocket and a button placket.

The technicality of each step varies, there is no major point of difficulty. However, the pattern includes many pieces, and there are many assembly steps, hence the difficulty level estimated as advanced. The choice of fabric will also be a key factor: a water-repellent fabric is more technical to sew than lightweight denim or cotton canvas.

Don't hesitate to carefully consult the pattern brochure and identify each piece before you start. Trust me, you won't regret it!

Happy sewing!
