A bohemian Cuba Libre in lace for a gypset look!
The gypset style is one of the summer trends that repeats itself from year to year. And the long dress is a key element of the bohemian look. Full of softness and femininity, the choice of materials is essential: a beautiful lace, in a neutral and soft shade, is an ally of choice for bohemian sewing. I also wanted to seize this trend, and for that I chose to marry the Cuba Libre dress pattern and the beautiful Coquillage ecru lace .
But it would be a shame to limit your sewing to a single look, and if the boho chic style is very attractive, let's explore other avenues so that you can wear your dress on multiple occasions, including for a really special day. Accessories will play a big role in this revisiting of looks around the same dress, here are my 3 style suggestions.
A dress with 3 possibilities
The inspirations
The Cuba Libre dress
Bohemia
The boho chic look is making a strong comeback on the catwalks: evanescent at Chloé, 2.0 at Rabanne, neo-romantic at Ulla Johnson, we have to admit that this silhouette is very seductive. A beautiful silk scarf tied in your hair, slightly retro clogs and beautiful earrings, it's easy to take your long lace dress down bohemian DNA back roads.
Black and white couture look
Any resemblance to the double C brand is totally assumed! The look becomes much more sophisticated, very constructed in this black and white opposition, and the long lace dress is structured with the little black Métropolis jacket. Add beautiful brooches to wear on the jacket, in the hair, and a long pearl necklace, for a first degree interpretation of the Chanel look. To add a more modern and slightly mischievous note, I chose androgynous white derbies, also iconic.
The dress of a day… Forever!
Sewing your wedding dress is an experience I would have loved to have! Of course, a "real" wedding dress has a very elaborate construction: the petticoat, the choice of a lining as precious as its main fabric, delicate embellishments like covered buttons, etc. But my beautiful Cuba Libre dress also lends itself perfectly to the exercise I find! I wear it for its photos with my veil, which I had a lot of emotion taking out of its tissue paper for the occasion. Pearls on my ears, glittery shoes, a large bangle, I say Yes again without hesitation ;)
I sew my lace dress
The Cuba Libre dress has a beautiful volume, it is very danceable, and the delicacy of the lace suits it well. The sewing pattern is available in an open back or closed back version. And since my collection already includes several dresses with the large back neckline, I chose the closed back here, to enjoy this beautiful lace even more.
How to sew Cuba Libre in Shell lace
Our lace features embroidered shells, and you have to be careful because the direction of the embroidery is not the one I preferred: the shells are horizontal on the fabric and I sew them vertically. I am attaching here the cutting plan and all the footage according to your size, to sew the Cuba libre dress in shell lace. I love it in ecru, but a beautiful Rose Romance or Jaune Sulfure dress will also be amazing!
An easy to sew lace dress
The pattern provides assembly instructions in case you want to line your dress. That's what I did here: the dress is lined on the front bust and for the entire skirt with ourecru cotton voile . Having no zip or button placket, Cuba Libre is an easy pattern to sew. And our lace fabric has no elasticity, so it is also very easy to sew.
