And why not a Sierra skirt?!
Hello! I don't know about you, but around here the sun is finally (FINALLY...) deciding to show itself! It's hot, it's nice, we can get out our pretty summer outfits ;) When I was preparing Sierra's pattern, I was mainly focused on the dress/top alternatives, and on working on the different "backs". But after sewing and wearing it so much, I wanted to try a "skirt" version of the pattern. And it works pretty well! On all my versions of the dress, I chose fabric with patterns that I could alternate the direction of to highlight the belt. My skirt was no exception, especially since this magnificent (and already essential ;) ) striped fabric fromLes Coupons de Saint Pierre lends itself perfectly to it. It's a linen, viscose and cotton blend fabric. I'm not really a fan of linen, especially because it creases a lot. But what a pleasure! The fabric is a little thick but not stiff, it creases little, and the ochre color of the stripes is exactly what I wanted for this summer. I'm wearing my new skirt with my Nana top in broderie anglaise (which also comes from Saint Pierre coupons). I really like the set, both in terms of the colors and the reminder of the knot detail between the skirt's belt and the shoulders of the top. Yes yes...I know when the knot is this size we're not really in the detail hihihi, but you know me well enough to know that I'm not a girl who does things by halves with her clothes. With a simple little camisole it's also very cute I assure you. And know that you can "fold" the belt on itself so that it is less wide. It's more classic and just as pretty. I chose not to sew a pocket, so assembling the skirt is very simple and does not require any modification of the pattern. You cut your front and back pieces. You sew the button placket as described in your booklet, then you assemble the sides right sides together your back pieces to the front piece. If you want pockets on your skirt, follow the instructions in the booklet, there is no change. You cut your belt pieces as indicated for the dress version. Assemble the sides and the front of the belt, you get 2 complete belt pieces. Here, there is no bust to assemble. So sew your belt right sides together, leaving only the "lower" part of the belt open, between the notches that correspond to the skirt (everything is clearly marked on the board and the booklet). Trim the corners, turn your belt right side out and iron it well. All you have to do now is gather your skirt and assemble it to the belt. Choose your most beautiful buttons and let's go for Sierra! The Sierra pattern can be found here I take advantage of this article to announce that the PDF pattern offer has considerably expanded at Maison Fauve. I put here the link to the women's PDF pattern store. Other patterns will follow, but it takes a long time to do the layout (especially since the PDFs are in 3 formats: A4, A0 and US letter), the product sheets, review the brochures... I'll do it as soon as possible ;) See you soon! Emilie
